  • Possible Demonstrator Project

Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire currently operate a community recording studio and community film label, the Imagination Lab from our Toolbox building in Somercotes, Derbyshire.

More details of the types of projects we have run are available here: http://www.gdd.org.uk/digitalmedia/index.html

As well as commissioned community films, we also run training courses for various groups on photoshop, photography, film making etc.

We also have open access computer facilities at both our Somercotes and Langley Mill sites. Obviously as we only work in a small geographic area, compared to the tender requirements, we would not be looking to lead on a bid, but are certainly interested in acting as a demonstrator project.

If you would like to contact us please email: rebecca.mcintyre@groundwork.org.uk

    Possible Demonstrator Project - Cornwall

We are very interested in the Digital Mentor National Coordinator bid that has been released.  But we are primarily interested in becoming one of the Demonstrator Projects with a Digital Mentor.

The CPR Success Zone is part of Cornwall County Council and provides direct support for schools within the Camborne, Pool and Redruth districts.  We are primarily funded by Excellence in Cities (EIC) money which has been allocated due to the high economic deprivation within the area.  The CPR Success Zone comprises a mix primary and secondary communities. Our primary schools represent five most deprived (90% IMD), Nine (next 80% category), seven (70% IMD category and one 60%).  We have two settled traveller communities, a large number of children’s centres.  The new standards agendas and the economic downturn give the Zone some complex challenges to address.  We have recently received funding for installation of computers and internet access into deprived families homes.

The CPR Success Zone has a number of teams that could link directly with this project as I feel the possibilities are endless especially within this area.   The Learning Space is a classroom of the future and delivers training for pupils and staff within the schools and also a number of family training days, workshops and parent / family / community events.  The ICT Systems Support Team carryout a number of roles within the schools that include, consultation, future planning, advising schools on government agendas and policies that need to be adhered to and work alongside to ensure that they are put in place.  We also provide full installation and servicing of all school maintained ICT equipment.  Part of our service is curriculum based in which we provide extensive media rich training and support for pupils / parents / staff.  One of our main aims is to help the wider community and media is the best possible way to include everyone.  We also offer Video conferencing within our schools and green screen technologies.  We are currently running media rich projects within the schools to help the students express what they feel positive about within the area and to give them a chance to air their views.  Another project that is being run is called time capsule where the students and families come to the classroom of the future and record themselves saying what their ambitions are and various discussions about current topics, so they can then review them in the future.  These projects are building great links with the community and creating strong family bonds.

Becoming a demonstrator project and being able to employ a full time digital mentor would enable us to take this to the next level and embrace the digital divide in which we often find ourselves in within this area.

Please see our website for further information: www.cprsuccesszone.co.uk

Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you

    Kindest regards,

    Glyn
