  • Welcome to the Digital Mentors Forum

In July 2008 Communities and Local Government launched Communities in Control: Real People, Real Power. This announced an initiative to develop a network of “Digital Mentors” working in deprived communities in England which would help more individuals to use social and community media.

Since its launch this initiative has generated considerable interest and ideas which we have drawn upon in the outline of the work we are now tendering for.

We hope that this forum can further capture this enthusiasm by giving you the opportunity to engage formally in the tender process if you wish and also contribute and develop your ideas about how this initiative could work alongside other interested parties.

The Expression of Interest form on our Invitation to tender page has lots more detail about how we see the initiative working so please take a look. We are particularly interested in the following issues although there may be more:

    • An alternative name for “Digital Mentors” which captures what we are trying to achieve
    • Any ideas you may have around the pilot framework
    • Views on how we can build on existing structures to achieve growth and sustainability

Your reflections on these issues are welcome up until 24 November 2008. After this, Communities and Local Government will refocus the discussions in line with the tender process.

Interesting but quite saddening to see no posts here except this introductory one; and no obvious way of adding posts except as replies to existing ones (ie this introductory one).

I hope this isn't indicative of CLG's interest in the debate, and that you are keeping abreast of the discussion eg via the Digital Mentor blog and the Digital Mentor wiki. ;-)

Leonard Cheshire Disability is a national charity working on behalf of disabled people.  Principally known for our care homes we are increasingly extending our portfolio of services into areas such as employment support, campaigning and developing online and web based resources.  As part of that we have have a long standing record of and commitment to getting disabled people to take advantage of technology.  We are interested in getting involved in Digital Mentors at some level to try and ensure disabled people are not left out of any digital initiative as they feature heavily in the voiceless under represented target group for this project.
