Draft Local Government Pension Scheme (Amendment) Regulations 2000

A limited consultation exercise commenced on 15 February to introduce amendments in respect of the conditions which apply to those bodies who seek admitted body status under regulation 5 of the principal LGPS regulations. We understand that the regulations have inadvertently introduced a commercial restriction regarding the type of authorised insurance provider of approved indemnity cover. An amendment to regulation 5(14)(a) is to be introduced so that "authorised insurer" is to be defined as "an insurance company authorised under section 3 or 4 of the Insurance Companies Act 1982 to carry out general business". We are also taking the opportunity to correct a minor cross referencing omission concerning the definition of an admission agreement employee and scheme employer.

Comments are requested no later than Monday 6 March. Responses and initial queries should be sent to Roisin Macreadie, Local Government Pensions Division, DETR, Zone 2/E8, Ashdown House, 123 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6DE (tel: 0171-890 6017).
