What is the Working Group on Local Government Financial Statistics or WGLGFS?
The Working Group on Local Government Financial Statistics or WGLGFS is a consultative group which considers the collection, presentation and analysis of data on local government finance. It has been in existence for about twenty years.
The membership consists of representatives from central government departments, local government, CIPFA and the Audit Commission, and generally meets three times a year usually in July, November and January.
It has recently been reconstituted with a revised Terms of Reference.
Sub-groups of WGLGFS may be set up, to hold detailed discussions on specific topics, and report back to the main group. WGLGFS currently has one sub-group, the Sub Group on Whole of Government Accounts, which has been established to examine and consult on options for collecting information from local authorities needed for the first WGA dry run for 2004-05.
Enquiries should be addressed to LGFSTATS@communities.gsi.gov.uk
