Local government pensions

Communities and Local Government is working to provide a secure, modernised statutory pension scheme for local government employees in England and Wales.

Following 3 months of consultation (30 June to 29 September 2006) the former Minister for Local Government and Social Cohesion, Phil Woolas, in a written statement to both Houses, announced the structure of the proposed new-look Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The new LGPS section below contains details of the proposals and consultation processes.

A dedicated local government pensions (external link) wesbite hosts all documents concerning the new-look scheme, as well as those pre-dating it, up to 4 April 2008. All documents after 4 April 2008 will now be available under Related Publications below.
