The certificate of Infosec competency
The ITPC
certificate is an induction-to-practitioner qualification for people at all
levels within organisations that implement UK government information security policy and
best practice. Different awards are available, each related to a core
competency profile in the Infosec Competencies Matrix.
The Certificate of Infosec Competency (Government Practitioner)
The Certificate of Infosec Competency (Government Practitioner) is the most
widely applicable award, for staff at all levels in Government departments,
accredited contractor companies and police forces. The Core Competency
Profile was developed primarily to reflect minimum competencies for
government departmental IT security officers (ITSOs). Candidates for
this certificate are encouraged to scope their target competencies to
reflect their own area of responsibility. Courses for this certificate
training path are provided by the National School of Government, CESG and (at
Practitioner Level training) accredited private sector providers.
The Certificate of Infosec Competency (Accreditor)
The Certificate of Infosec Competency (Accreditor) was launched in 2003. It
is geared to the role of system security Accreditor, whether performing
accreditation in a government department, an accredited contractor company
or a police force. The core competency profile is common across all three
of these sectors, in order to provide trust between organisations that
those who achieve this certificate perform accreditation to the same basic
standard. Courses for this certificate training path are provided by the
National School of Government and CESG, at induction
level, and by the National School of Government at practitioner level. More
courses may become available shortly.
Certificate of Infosec Competency (Comsec Manager and Practitioner)
The most recent additions to the ITPC scheme are the
Certificate of Infosec Competency (Comsec Manager) and the Certificate of
Infosec Competency (Comsec Practitioner). These are aimed at those with
specific Comsec roles set out in UK Government Infosec Standard 4, Communications
Security and Cryptography. For details of courses for both Comsec Manager
