  • New Forest National Park Authority (1 vacancy expected)

National Park Authorities work to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage within the Parks and to help improve public understanding and enjoyment of them. The Broads Authority is a member of the National Parks family, but is also a harbour authority and the third largest inland navigation authority and has the additional purpose of protecting the interests of navigation.

The Secretary of State appoints several members to each Authority to reflect the national importance placed on National Parks.  In particular they will consider strategic issues such as responsibility for conservation, recreation, planning, access, land management and resources issues, as well as reflecting both local and national interests. Applications are particularly encouraged from members of ethnic minorities, disabled and young people.

Appointments commence in April 2009 and are initially for four years, with the option of re-appointment for a period of up to ten years.

Application forms and further details can be obtained from: Liz Bingham, Natural England, John Dower House, Crescent Place, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL50 3RA (tel: 01242 533297 - voicemail; e-mail: np2009.appointments@naturalengland.org.uk), or online at www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/appointments/index.htm
