Consultation on the English Inshore Fleet – Looking to the Future

This consultation paper invites views on the detail of the proposals in Mr Shaw's letter of February 2008. This letter, sent to all licensed fishermen, proposed measures for tackling the current difficulties in the English under 10 metre fleet. Responses should be received by 3 October 2008.

Some £40 million in grant has been made available to the fishing industry in England for a wide range of projects since 2001, when the current grant scheme began.

The grants are funded by MFA and the European Union under the Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG).

The FIFG scheme is now closed to new applications.

Beneficiaries who have completed their projects and have not yet claimed their grant are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

Details of the introduction of FIFG's successor, the European Fisheries Fund (EFF), will be announced later this year after a public consultation on the operational programme for the EFF.

If you have a project that you think might be eligible for funding under the EFF, please seek advice from one of our grant advisers. Recent press releases on the grants can be found via the following links:

The FIFG Outside Objective 1 programme was evaluated in 2003 and again in 2005. Documents available to download are:
