Consultation on the implementation of the revised Bathing Water Directive

This consultation closed on 4 February 2008. Forty-two responses were received to the consultation and a summary of responses (including the Government’s response in light of the comments received) can be accessed below.

The consultation invited views on proposals for implementing the revised Bathing Water Directive, 2006/7/EC, in England and Wales.

In particular, the Government sought views on: 

  • the number and type of bathing waters where measures should be taken to improve the water quality;
  • the continued development of a prediction and discounting system; and
  • the development of public information for beach signage.
