Environmental Permitting Programme
Latest news
The Environmental Permitting Programme (EPP) is a major Defra, Environment Agency and Welsh Assembly Government initiative that has created a single more user-friendly and modern permitting and compliance system for Waste Management Licensing and Pollution Prevention and Control. We are now considering extending this single system by including further permitting and compliance regimes.
The new Environmental Permitting system simplifies permit applications, amendments and variations for both industry and regulator and thereby cuts unnecessary red tape. It allows regulators to focus resources on medium and high-risk operations whilst continuing to protect the environment and human health.
EPP is one of Defra’s Better Regulation initiatives which aim to improve regulatory activities, cut admin burdens and focus on the delivery of a better service to customers.
Deliverables
- Cutting of unnecessary red tape - bringing cost-savings to industry and allowing regulators to focus their resources on issues that matter
- Continued protection of the environment and human health – maintaining current standards
- Increased clarity and certainty for everyone on how the regulations protect the environment - a clearer, simpler and quicker system allowing a better understanding of the law and its effects
