Zoos forum annual report 2007/08

The Zoos Forum Annual Report for 2007/08 has been published today by Defra.  The report highlights progress and developments by the Forum during the last financial year.

Topics covered in the report include supplementary guidance on education, a new chapter for the Zoos Forum Handbook, guidance to help ensure the consistent interpretation of aspects of the Zoo Licensing Act 1981, and includes full minutes of three Forum meetings held during the year.

The Zoos Forum is the Government’s independent advisory non-departmental public body on zoo-related matters. It comprises a panel of unpaid experts, appointed by Defra Ministers, which usually meets three times each year. Members include zoo operators, vets, educationalists, local authority officials, zoo inspectors, animal welfare scientists and an RSPCA representative.

The full report can be viewed at: www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/gwd/zoosforum/pdf/ar2008.pdf and further details about the Zoos Forum can be found at: www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/gwd/zoosforum/
