Summary

Since September 2001, Ofsted has been responsible for the regulation of childminding and day care. This report presents for the first time a national picture of childcare in England. Covering regulatory activity between 1 September 2001 and 31 March 2003, the report’s findings are based on 26,300 registration visits, 81,500 transitional childcare inspections and 10,500 investigations of complaints.
