free range hens Defra is responsible for eggs and poultrymeat marketing policy in England and UK policy on egg and poultry aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy. Defra represents the UK interests at the EU Management Committee for Eggs and Poultrymeat.

Defra also has responsibility for sponsorship of the egg and poultry industries in the UK. In particular, we work to ensure that the interests of industry are reflected in the development of UK policy.

2 July 2008 - The Eggs and Chicks(England) Regulations 2008 come into force and set out the detailed provisions for the enforcement in England of the EU egg and chick marketing standards.
