The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Cyril Jonathan Meyrick MA, Canon Residentiary of Rochester Cathedral, to the Deanery of Exeter in succession to the Very Reverend Keith Brynmor Jones MA, on his translation.

Canon Jonathan Meyrick (aged 53) studied at St John’s College Oxford and trained for the ministry at Sarum and Wells Theological College. He served his first Curacy at Bicester, Oxford from 1976 to 1978 and was then Bishop’s Domestic Chaplain from 1978 to 1981. From 1981 to 1984 he was Tutor in Old Testament studies at Codrington College Barbados.

He was Team Vicar of Burnham with Dropmore, Hitcham and Taplow, Oxford, from 1984 to 1990. From 1990 to 1998 he was Team Rector of Tisbury, Sarum and Wells, and between 1997 and 1998 he was also Rural Dean of Chalke. He has been Canon Residentiary of Rochester Cathedral since 1998, serving as Canon Pastor and Acting Dean.

He is married to Rebecca and they have one son and two daughters.

Canon Meyrick’s interests include acting, singing, theatre, swimming, walking, travel, reading, good food and wine.
