Inside View - a message from Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector

July has seen the publication of the third joint Chief Inspectors’ review of arrangements to safeguard children - carried out by Ofsted, the Health Care Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Court Administration, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons, and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation.

The report, Safeguarding Children, is published every three years and assesses how well agencies are working together at both national and local levels to improve outcomes for the children and young people who use their services or are in their care or custody.

Safeguarding children is about more than protecting them from neglect and abuse. It is also about making sure they are healthy, developing properly, and are safe and well cared for, enabling them to have the best possible life chances and to enter adulthood effectively. It is about protection, prevention and the development of each individual.
