Biography

Lord Drayson left the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) on 7 November 2007.

Lord Drayson was previously appointed Minister of State for Business, Regulatory Reform on 29 June 2007. He was also a Minister with the MOD.

Paul was a Science entrepreneur for 20 years before going into politics in 2004. He trained as an engineer and following a PhD in robotics his career has encompassed the motor, food and biopharmaceutical industries.

He co-founded Powderject Pharmaceuticals plc and built it into one of the world’s leading vaccine companies, floating on the London Stock Exchange in 1997.

He was chairman of the Bio-industry Association (2001-02); Enterpreneur in Residence at the Said Business School, Oxford University (2003-04); and chairman of the Oxford Children’s Hospital Campaign (2002-05).

He is married with five children and his other passions are sword fencing, which he has been doing for over 30 years, and racing a bio-fuelled Aston Martin in the British GT championship.

He was been the Minister responsible for defence procurement from 2005 to 2007.
