This four-year project
has developed approaches to the conservation of rivers in the UK proposed
for protection as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) under the European
Habitats and Species Directive. These form part of the Natura 2000
network across the European Union. Outputs of the project include
a series of reports collating the best available information on the
ecological requirements of each species and habitat, and a complementary
set suggesting monitoring techniques; conservation strategies for
the seven candidate SAC rivers; and documents reporting the results
of field trials of conservation techniques.
