FSE methods papers published

Two papers on the farm-scale evaluations have just been published in The Journal of Applied Ecology. The papers give more details of the scientific approach being used in the FSEs. They have been written by members of the FSE research consortium and their publication approved by the scientific steering committee. Both have been independently peer reviewed by the journal.

The first paper is entitled 'An introduction to the Farm-scale Evaluations of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant crops'. The paper gives more details of general approach and the range of measurements being taken in the FSEs.

The second paper is entitled 'Design, analysis and statistical power of the Farm-Scale Evaluations of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant crops'. This gives details of the considerations that went into the overall design of the FSEs. In particular it describes the statistical analysis used to calculate how many fields would be needed. The paper also sets out the proposed methodology for analysing the results.

The papers are both in the February issue of the Journal of Applied Ecology (Volume 40, pages 2-31). Abstracts of the papers can be viewed at the journal's web-site.
