Climate change and energy
Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather. The effects will be felt in the UK; internationally there may be severe problems for people in regions that are particularly vulnerable.
The UK is acting now to adapt to climate change and to reduce the risk by reducing our contribution to the causes. These pages explains what climate change means for the UK and what we are doing about it.
Low carbon technology: Environmental Transformation Fund
The Environmental Transformation Fund has been increased to £400m over the next three years; the first set of schemes to be funded by Defra's share of the new joint Defra/BERR fund has been announced. (see Defra news release) (21 February 2008)
