Annual Statement of forthcoming legislation
In February 2007 Defra published an update to their Statement of forthcoming legislation. The latest statement is a revision, showing when new regulations impacting businesses and the public at large have taken / will take effect during . This statement is part of a cross Whitehall initiative to give businesses more certainty, and allow them to plan for changes to regulatory requirements. An additional update will be published on 31 January 2008.

Impact assessment
Impact assessment is an essential tool used throughout the policy making process. Impact assessments are designed to set out in a structured way all options and the cost and benefit information of each option for all policy proposals. They must consider the effect on climate change and carbon reduction and, where necessary, they must also consider issues such as competition, health, legal aid and race equality. New arrangements for IAs are expected to be introduced from May 2007.
