Avian influenza update: control area in Dorset

Following confirmation earlier today of highly pathogenic H5N1 in a Canada goose in the Wild Bird Monitoring Area in Dorset,  Defra has now confirmed that a Control Area will be put in place in the area.

This follows consideration today of the need for any additional restrictions.  The decision is based on veterinary advice.  The restrictions on housing birds or otherwise isolating them from wild birds, and ban on bird gatherings, remains in place.  In addition, in the Control Area poultry keepers will not be able to move birds from their premises except under licence.
