Business Development Team

2010 Target Team – Business Development Unit

The 2010 Target Team is responsible for successfully delivering the Government’s target of 10 per cent of UK electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010. The team does this through co-ordination, influencing and driving of activity.

The Business Development Team is working with UK industry, tracking business opportunities, to help it win a greater share of renewables business. This involves working in partnership with the UK regions to drive the creation of economic benefit and jobs.

It is estimated that there are currently around 8,000 people employed in the renewables industry in the UK, supporting a market of around £290 million per annum. It is predicted that by 2020 the industry could sustain between 17,000 and 35,000 jobs. Because total activity would vary from year to year, it is possible that the peaks in jobs could be significantly above these levels.

The team is also working closely with key wind turbine companies and regional partners (Regional District Authorities and Regional Renewables Champions) to develop supply chain opportunities for companies able to compete on price and quality.
