Applying for research funding

The Sustainable Farming and Food Science Research Programmes

The Sustainable Farming and Food Science Division (SFFSD) procures scientific research in sustainable farming, food technology and non-food crops, to provide an evidence base for Defra's policy formulation and development.

Our research is procured under four programmes that directly address Defra's strategic priorities. These are:

  • Agriculture and Climate Change (incl. air quality)
  • Water Quality and Use (Agriculture)
  • Sustainable Farming Systems and Biodiversity
  • Food Chain Meeting Consumer Needs

SFFSD research programme requirements for 2007/08 to be met by competition are set out in the table below.
