These schemes are concerned with delivering more customer-focused, competitive but sustainable food and farming. Select schemes that interest you, to read more.

The overall programme contributes to delivering the Sustainable Farming and Food Strategy objectives (to create a more market driven and economically sustainable sector). It supports Defra’s Public Service Agreement 5 objectives.

Agriculture Development Scheme Grants for industry-led measures in England to improve marketing performance and competition.

Energy Crops Scheme Grants to establish short-rotation coppice (SRC) or miscanthus; and helps SRC growers set up producer groups.
Entry-Level Stewardship Part of Environmental Stewardship
Environmental Stewardship Incorporates Entry-Level Stewardship; Higher-Level Stewardship; Organic Entry Level Stewardship
Farm Waste Grant Scheme Scheme now closed; helped farmers in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs) install or improve farm waste facilities.
Higher-Level Stewardship Part of Environmental Stewardship
Hill Farm Allowance Supports beef and sheep producers farming in the English Less Favoured Areas (LFAs).
Processing and Marketing Grant Scheme now closed to new applicants - Grants for capital investment in processing and marketing agricultural products.
Rural Enterprise Scheme Scheme now closed to new applicants - Supports projects aiming to develop more sustainable, diversified and enterprising rural economies and communities.
Sheep and Wildlife Enhancement Scheme Scheme now closed as a result of CAP Reforms.
Single Payment Scheme (CAP) New single payment replaces ten major CAP payment scheme. See www.defra.gov.uk/farm/capreform/index.htm
Vocational Training Scheme Scheme now closed to new applicants - Funds vocational (ie a person’s occupation or work) training for those engaged in farming or forestry
