Terms used

AWDL – Average Working Days Lost, i.e. the total number of working days lost across the year in a department, divided by the total number of potential staff years in that department.

Weighted AWDL – Weighting attempts to adjust for individual demographic differences between departments. In other words, if a department has a high proportion of a particular demographic group compared to the overall Civil Service, their AWDL will be affected by this. Weighting attempts to compensate for this.

Confidence Limits – Confidence Limits give a measure of the error, or confidence, in the data, and are expressed at a 5% confidence interval.

Long Term Sickness Absence – An absence of a month or over (21 working days or more).
