FCO Consular Services Our consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day staff throughout our worldwide network of Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates are helping British nationals. It is one of the most important parts of the Government's foreign policy. During the 2006-07 financial year, British nationals made over 70 million trips abroad. Our 1,680 Consular staff overseas helped over 75,000 British nationals and issued over 410,000 passports. Support for British Nationals Abroad: a Guide In 2006 we launched a new consular guide. This is the first time that the details of what the Foreign Office can – and can't – do to help British people in trouble abroad have been set out in a single document.
