Date and venue of future talks

To assist Parties and observers in their planning, the secretariat confirms that the first session of Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention and the first part of the fifth session of the Ad hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG) will be held on 31 March - 4 April 2008. The venue for the sessions will be announced as soon as possible following the completion of on going consultations with a potential host and the settlement of budgetary questions.

Delegates rise to applaud the decision to adopt the "Bali roadmap" for a future international agreement on climate change

The Conference, hosted by the Government of Indonesia, took place at the Bali International Convention Centre and brought together representatives of over 180 countries together with observers from intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, and the media. The two week period included the sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, its subsidiary bodies as well as the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol. A ministerial segment in the second week concluded the Conference.

Participants have arrived in Davos for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, which starts today. On the first afternoon there will be a World Economic Brainstorming, where participants will work together to identify the most pressing threat to growth and prioritize a plan of action. The opening session itself will address two of the key issues facing the world, climate change and terrorism.

H.E. Mr. Maciej Nowicki, Minister of Environment of Poland and Yvo de Boer, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, on Thursday signed the Host Country Agreement between the Government of Poland and the Secretariat concerning the United Nations Climate Change Conference - Poznan, 2008. According to Minister Nowicki, the conference - COP14/CMP4 - will be a "crucial stepping stone" on the way to COP15/CMP5 in Copenhagen. According to Executive Secretary de Boer, "Poznan will be critical to move towards common understanding of the financial and technical tools that are the essential catalysts for the global fight of climate change in both rich and developing countries."
