This report provides a progress report against the aims set out in the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal; demonstrates progress made in neighbourhoods and includes a summary of new funding and high level government targets announced as part of the Spending Review 2004.

Updating the English Indices of Deprivation 2000 Stage 1 Consultation Report (Acrobat 1,459.4 kb)
The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) commissioned the Social Disadvantage Research Centre (SDRC) at the University of Oxford to construct the Indices of Deprivation 2000 (ID 2000) and these were released in 2000. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) now has responsibility for the ID 2000 and spearheads the renewal effort across Whitehall. The ID 2000 have been extensively used by Central Government, Local Government and non-governmental organisations to target deprivation at a small area level throughout England. The ID 2000 have been used to distribute substantial resources with the aim of helping deprived communities.
