Domestic policy: Soil Action Plan
(2004-2005) / Soil Strategy (2007)
Introduction
Soil Strategy for England (2007)
The First Soil Action Plan for England (2004-2006) has provided us with a good foundation but there is still much to be done to improve the management of soils to deliver a wide range of benefits to society and to improve the measures we use to achieve this. To succeed the First Soil Action Plan for England, a Soil Strategy for England is currently being developed.
The Soil Strategy for England will take stock of progress under the Action Plan, as well as taking forward emerging priorities for soil protection on maintaining soil carbon and the recycling of organic wastes to land. Defra plans to go out for consultation on the Strategy in late-2007/early-2008.
Soil action plan for England (2004-2006)
The First Soil Action Plan for England: 2004-2006 was published in May 2004. It built upon the Draft Soil Strategy for England (published as a consultation document in March 2001) to commit Government to specific actions relating to better soil protection and management. The Action Plan was developed with a steering group of key Other Government Departments and Agencies, environmental Non-Governmental Organisations and academics.
