Simplifying Business Support: A consultation - supplementary information on the proposed business support

The consultation document ‘Simplifying Business Support’ sets out the proposed framework for publicly-funded business support. More information on the proposed business support (set out in section 3 and Annex A of the consultation document) is provided at the links below. These summaries should be read in conjunction with the consultation document.

What is the status of these summaries?

We are consulting now - in the design phase - to determine whether the kind of support government proposes to fund in the future meets business need and fulfils public policy objectives. Further work is required to refine the business support outlined here and to put guidelines in place which will ensure all business support is accessed, delivered, branded, monitored and evaluated to ensure it is simple for business, effective and value for money.

What business support activity do the summaries cover?

The business support described in these summaries spans the activities of central and local government and the Regional Development Agencies. DTI is consulting on this activity on behalf of all the government departments involved in the Business Support Simplification Programme.

The support is arranged under themes reflecting key business activities – this means that some support appears under more than one heading because it will be relevant to businesses with different needs.
