Productivity in the UK 6: Progress and new evidence
Productivity in the UK 6: Progress and new evidence is the sixth paper in the Productivity series. The paper highlights the UK's recent strong productivity performance over the economic cycle which is particularly impressive as it occured in conjunction with strong employment growth. The paper refreshes and extends the evidence base underlying the Government's framework for the five drivers of productivity: competition; innovation; investment; skills; and enterprise. The paper illustrates why productivity growth needs to be measured over the economic cycle. It outlines the UK's cyclical productivity performance and assesses it against key comparator countries. The Government's key macroeconomic reforms since 1997, which are designed to increase productivity growth, are also set out.
