Confident Consumers

Confident Consumers - Introduction

bag*The Confident Consumers section of the DTI web site provides policy information on a wide variety of consumer subjects and explains how we have strengthened safeguards for consumers in many areas, including e-commerce. We also cover trading standards, product safety, consumer credit and finance, consumer complaints and ways of resolving disputes.

The DTI is the Government Department which deals with consumer policy issues. We want to ensure that UK consumers are treated fairly, know their rights and can use them effectively.

Whether shopping and trading traditionally, or nationally and internationally on the Internet, we want to ensure they can rely on better service, safer products, and fair advertising, marketing and pricing. This requires effective enforcement of consumer standards - which will not only protect the consumer, but also strengthen British business.

Individual Consumer Complaints

Please note that the DTI does not provide advice on individual consumer problems or complaints, which should be taken to local Citizens Advice or Trading Standards Departments, or the Government-funded Consumer Direct. Some of our Quick Facts pages may help consumers find the appropriate body to deal with their complaint.

E-Bulletin

Catch-up on all the latest consumer policy news from DTI by subscribing to our monthly E-Bulletin. Please click here and send us you first and last names and email address to be added to the circulation list.
