Comparative Statistics for the UK, European and US Biotechnology Sectors - Analysis Year 2003. The UK Biotechnology sector
continues to lead the way in Europe. An earlier study was carried out entitled Analysis Years 2001 & 2002.

need to grow and develop.

Healthcare Industries Task Force Report. Identifies steps to develop and strengthen performance of the UK healthcare industry and maximise the benefit to patients
from healthcare products.
Current UK law and practice regarding patents for genetic sequences is generally meeting the needs of those currently active
in this research area. There has also been a workshop to discuss these findings.
This report highlights the need for better biomeasurement and identifies measurement as an additional element of the infrastructure
supporting the bioscience sector.
2003
Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team. This report sets out what is needed to develop the biotechnology sector. Part of the Government's response to this was to
set up the Bioscience Leadership Council.
2001
Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force Report The PICTF report identified steps to be taken to strengthen the competitiveness of the UK business environment for the pharmaceutical
industry.
European Life Science Strategy. The European Commission's Informal Biotechnology Network has agreed to use Action Plans as a basis for further work, which
will feed into the mid-term review of the Life Sciences Strategy.
1999
Genome Valley. The economic potential and strategic importance of biotechnology in the UK.
Biotechnology Clusters. The critical success factors for a biotechnology cluster are the presence of functioning networks and partnerships; a strong
innovation base with supporting R&D activities; and a strong skills base.
