DTI has being developing a suite of regional and local authority based energy consumption data over the past few years. The
data is produced to emphasise the importance of local and regional decision-making for energy policy in delivering a number
of national energy policy objectives; this was identified in the 2003 Energy White Paper. DTI is committed to collecting
and making available data on the pattern of energy use in local areas, enabling local authorities and regional bodies to effectively
target energy efficiency related activity.
This area of the website contains data and guidance notes for all the regional, local authority, and middle-layer super output
area data that are produced by the DTI.
Feedback from Data Users
To ensure that DTI continues to meet the needs of users of its sub national energy data, the Department wants to encourage
data users to give feedback on the usefulness of the information provided on this webpage. As part of this process a short
questionnaire is available, which can be accessed from 'Related Documents'.
Helping Users Interpret the DataTo aid user's understanding of the datasets provided, a guidance note has been written to explain how the data were collected,
compiled and advice on how they should be interpreted (see 'Related Documents').
Available DatasetsFollow the links below for access to all available datasets:
Combined Regional Front-endAlternatively, instead of accessing each dataset individually, all available datasets for 2003 can be viewed in one place
by using the Combined Regional Front-end. Data can be viewed quickly and easily without downloading separate files. Users
can filter for individual local authorities or regions as well as comparing several areas at once over any of DTI's sub-national
datasets. This can be accessed through the link below.
Please note: this workbook requires users to download the file onto your hard drive and "Enable macros" before it will work
correctly.
CO2 estimatesDefra have also released experimental 2003 estimates of local (NUTS4) and regional (NUTS1) CO2 emissions by sector. These
estimates have been produced by AEA Energy & Environment (formerly Netcen), using much of the DTI local and regional energy
consumption statistics as base data, and are available on the Defra website (see 'External Links').
Future work
DTI have a work programme in place to develop additional analysis of regional and local authority data. For further information
