Child Benefit Act 2005

The Child Benefit Act 2005 received Royal Assent on 24 March 2005. The Act enables the Government to extend Child Benefit from April 2006 to the families of 16 - 19 year olds in unwaged work-based learning and 19 year olds completing a course of education or training.

It is an important step towards implementing the proposals in Supporting Young People to Achieve (PDF), published alongside Budget 2004, which set out a package of measures to improve financial support to help all young people participate in education or training after 16.
