Formed in 1995, CCLRC works with the other Research Councils to set future priorities that meet UK science needs. CCLRC has two distinct arms - a Head Office responsible for policy, planning and finance; and a range of business units responsible to the CCLRC and other Research Councils for delivering high quality science and facilities for the academic and industrial research communities. CCLRC has an annual budget of over £150 million.
The Council also operates three world class research laboratories: the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and the Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire.
In April 2007, CCLRC will merge with the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council to form a Large Facilities Research Council.
