The Renewables Obligation
The Renewables Obligation
|
The Renewables Obligation is the Government’s main mechanism for supporting renewable energy. Introduced in April 2002, it
provides a substantial market incentive for all eligible forms of renewable energy. In Scotland, the Renewables Obligation
(Scotland) is in place. Work is under way to introduce a Renewables Obligation in Northern Ireland. This section tells you
about the Obligation, its development and how it is enforced.
Following the 2006 Energy Review the Government announced a number of proposals for changes to the Renewables Obligation. The
Government will publish a consultation on the Reform of the Renewables Obligation and the Renewables Obligation Order 2007
and details of the consultation can be found by clicking on the Consultations option at the top of this page.
