Investing in Innovation: A Strategy for Science, Engineering and Technology
Following the cross-cutting review of science and research, and the July 2002 Spending Review, "Investing in Innovation: A Strategy for Science, Engineering and Technology" was launched at the Wellcome Trust on 23 July 2002. The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Paul Boateng, was joined at the launch by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Estelle Morris, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Patricia Hewitt, and the Minister for Science and Innovation, Lord Sainsbury.
The strategy sets out a long term vision for science in the UK, including information on the Spending Review outcome, and the arrangements for working in partnership with other funders and users of research to ensure the UK science base is sustainable in the long term, and continues to contribute to productivity growth.
The document also includes the Government's response to Sir Gareth
Roberts' Review of the supply of scientists and engineers.
