Eddie Izzard's European podcast
17 June 2006
Ever wondered what happens when Europe's political leaders get together?
Well Eddie Izzard did, so he set off for Brussels to find out.
The popular comedian, who has a passion for European issues, tagged along with the PM's party for a behind-the-scenes look at what happens at a Council meeting.
And Eddie shares his observations in a fascinating podcast recorded exclusively for the Downing Street website.
During his two-day trip he braves the traffic with the PM's convoy, chats to the Dutch Prime Minister about England's chances in the World Cup and probes the thoughts of Tony Blair onboard his plane.
Eavesdropping on meetings and press conferences, Eddie gets a feel for how much goes in to hosting a meeting involving 25 different nations. As he explains in the podcast:
"European Councils - there seems to be a lot of hard work and a lot of running about. But it's a good and positive thing."
