Results of the Italian six-month Presidency
On 16 December, President of the Council Silvio Berlusconi, along with Minister for Foreign Affairs Franco Frattini, presented the European Parliament with a summary of the Italian Presidency.
The European Council of 12 December
The European Council led to concrete results on the matters concerning citizens' direct interests and reinforcing the Union's overall image. These results were made possible by an excellent collaborative relationship with the Commission and were advanced in a spirit of open and constructive confrontation with the European Parliament.
The Growth Initiative promoted by the Presidency
The approval of the initiative is among the most important outcomes of the Italian Presidency that dedicated great attention to the theme of European economic revival. The initiative ensures a framework of financial support to European strategies for infrastructure, information technology networks, research projects and the creation of a fully integrated European market.
The Presidency's Cultural Programme
In order to leave a lasting impression, the Italian Presidency has flanked the political and economic aims of its six-month term with a high level cultural programme that has included initiatives regarding all those sectors in which Italy has manifested and continues to manifest its ingeniousness, vitality and artistic creativity.
