The Renewables Obligation
The Renewables Obligation
The Renewables Obligation is the Government’s main mechanism for supporting renewable energy. Introduced in April 2002, it
provides a substantial market incentive for all eligible forms of renewable energy. In Scotland, the Renewables Obligation
(Scotland) is in place. Work is under way to introduce a Renewables Obligation in Northern Ireland. This section tells you
about the Obligation, its development and how it is enforced.
