Dr Steve Marsh, Director of the Cabinet Office unit in charge of information assurance has won the 2005 European Information Assurance Award for best policy delivery, it was revealed last night.
Accepting the award at the 14th annual RSA Conference in Vienna, Dr Marsh cited the hard work of his whole team at the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance (CSIA).
The event is Europe's largest independently–hosted conference focusing on information security, and is attended by leading global representatives from government, academia and the private sector.
Dr Marsh said: “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of all the staff at CSIA. It is fantastic to receive this kind of recognition for all our ongoing hard work to ensure confidence in the UK's information systems.
“This is a welcome reward for a year of hard work that has seen the successful introduction of several innovative policy initiatives. Our work, with both private and public sector organisations, is essential in helping to safeguard the nation's IT and telecommunications services.
“Recent initiatives have addressed essential needs in sustaining a resilient information infrastructure and promoting the importance of information assurance around the UK.
”
The CSIA provides a strategic and co–ordinated approach to protecting the UK's information systems, pulling together all the projects going on cross–government and addressing gaps and overlaps in policy provision.
Working with partners across Government and the private sector, as well as international counterparts, the unit plays an invaluable role helping to maintain a reliable, secure and resilient national information infrastructure. CSIA works with industry, public and private sector and academia to promote IA practice and standards across the UK.
