The Regulatory Reform Act 2001 received Royal Assent on Tuesday 10 April 2001.
The Act is an important part of the Modernising Government agenda, fitting into a wider programme of action aimed at addressing the problem of burdensome regulation.
The main provision of the Act is to allow the reform of primary legislation by Regulatory Reform Order (RRO).
It also gives Ministers (and the National Assembly for Wales, where appropriate) a reserve power to set out a code of good enforcement practice.
