Consultation on the Transport and Works (Scotland) Bill
Railway Lines Views on the general principles of the Transport and Works (Scotland) Bill are being sought by the Local Government and Transport Committee. The bill seeks to simplify the process for handling applications for transport infrastructure projects, such as new railways and tramways. It aims to encourage meaningful engagement between developers and those affected by development projects and ensure more information is available to the public.

Festival of Politics returns in August
Historian and TV presenter Dan Snow, pictured, entrepreneur Michelle Mone and satirist Armando Iannucci are among the guests at this year's Festival of Politics. Also appearing will be Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell MP, who will discuss his life in politics. See further programme details. Following last year's inaugural event the Festival has been extended from three to four days and has more than twice the number of events.

Christmas Day and New Year's Day Trading (Scotland) Bill
Image of a diary page showing 25 DecemberThe Justice 2 Committee is seeking views on the general principles of the Christmas Day and New Year’s Day Trading (Scotland) Bill. The bill, which was introduced in the Parliament on 20 March 2006, aims to prohibit large shops from opening for the purpose of retail trading on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The closing date for written submissions is Friday 11 August.

World Press Photo Exhibition at Holyrood
World Press Photo image The Scottish Parliament will host one of the world's most prestigious photographic exhibitions as part of this year's Festival of Politics. Showing in Scotland for the first time, the World Press Photo exhibition is the result of a worldwide annual competition attracting entries from leading photojournalists, newspapers and magazines from all corners of the globe. The exhibition will be free to view and will be held at Holyrood between 22 August and 7 September 2006.

Call for evidence on Health Board Elections (Scotland) Bill
Nurses at work The Health Committee has issued a call for evidence on the Health Board Elections (Scotland) Bill. The bill proposes the establishment of elections to each of the 14 area health boards in Scotland every four years. Introduced by Bill Butler MSP, the proposed legislation intends to create a more democratic system for appointment to Scotland's health boards. Closing date: 25 August.
