Farming: Single Payment Scheme / CAP Reform

Rural scene

Under the CAP Reform package, the Single Payment Scheme replaces eleven schemes with one new single payment. Farmers will have greater freedom to farm to the demands of the market as subsidies will be decoupled from production, and environmentally friendly farming practices will be better acknowledged and rewarded.

Single Payment Scheme

Under the CAP Reform package, the Single Payment Scheme will simplify the application arrangements for subsidy payments by replacing eleven CAP payment schemes with one new single payment. Farmers will have greater freedom to farm to the demands of the market as subsidies will be decoupled from production. At the same time, environmentally friendly farming practices will be better acknowledged and rewarded. Meeting the requirements relating to the environment, public and plant health and animal health and welfare is described as ‘cross-compliance’. The implementation of the CAP reform is central to England's Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.
