Air quality strategy: evaluation

Defra commissioned An evaluation of the air quality strategy in order to evaluate selected air quality policies, in the road transport and electricity generator sector, from 1990 onwards. This evaluation was carried out by AEA Technology. The report had three main aims:

1. To assess the cost-effectiveness in achieving air quality improvements of these selected policies;

2. To assess the costs and benefits of these policies; and

3. To evaluate how closely the actual out-turns of policies match the anticipated effect.

Additional analysis was also carried out to review a number of local (urban) transport initiatives and is presented in the accompanying report titled Additional analysis: local road transport measures
