Introduction

"An Economic Analysis to Inform the Review of the Air Quality Strategy Objectives for Particles" presents an in-depth investigation of the costs and benefits of illustrative, national policy packages for reducing population-weighted concentrations of PM10 in the UK.

It is the second report of the Defra led Interdepartmental Group on Costs and Benefits (IGCB) and accompanies the consultation document "Air Quality Strategy for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland: consultation on the proposals for air quality objectives for particles, carbon monoxide, benzene and PAHs"

The IGCB consists of government economists and other experts from all relevant Departments including: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, Cabinet Office, Department of Environment for Northern Ireland, Environment Agency for England and Wales, HM Treasury, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, The National Assembly for Wales, The Scottish Executive.
