Air Quality - Valuation of Air Pollution Effects
on Ecosystems: A Scoping Study

Summary

"Valuation of Air Pollution Effects on Ecosystems: A Scoping Study" represents research carried out for the Department by the University of Aberdeen. The aim of the study was to assess the extent to which it is possible to value the benefits to UK ecosystems which would result from reductions in air pollution.

The report has been made available in Adobe Acrobat (350kb) format for downloading.

The research was commissioned in response to the Interdepartmental Group on Costs and Benefits interim report "An economic analysis of the National Air Quality Strategy objectives" which stressed the importance of taking into account all the health and environmental benefits associated with the achievement of the air quality strategy objectives. In the interim IGCB report, benefits to ecosystems from reductions in air pollution were identified and assessed as potentially significant, but it was not possible at that time to conduct an economic analysis of these benefits. This study assessed the extent to which this view would still remain.
