Recommendation for an Air Quality Standard for Lead

  1. The Panel recommend an Air Quality Standard for lead in the United Kingdom of 0.25 µg/m3 measured as an annual average.
  2. This recommendation is intended to protect young children, the group regarded by the Panel as those most vulnerable to impairment of brain function. The Panel point out that action to protect such children should take account of all likely sources of exposure to lead. It is intended that techniques for monitoring the Standard should be consistent with the lead measurements made by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
