Defra's five-year strategy

The Department published its five year strategy in 2004. It is an ambitious strategy for the next five years and beyond and shows how we plan to take forward our five strategic priorities. Much of it builds on work already in hand which was detailed in our earlier strategy, but it also sets out clearly our future direction with particular emphasis on environmental leadership from local to global and putting sustainable development into practice - in rural policy; in farming, fishing and food and in the way we work as a Department.

Printed copies of this document (Cm 6411) can be obtained from The Stationery Office (ISBN 0101641125, price £19.25).

Our strategy documents page provides more information on Defra's strategic priorities, including David Miliband's letter to the Prime Minister of 11 July 2006.
